Celebrate your Second Shifter today
My sister and I were on the phone. We were discussing our husband's jobs. Hers is a commercial airline pilot and mine, well you know what mine does. Both of our husbands are gone for significant amounts of time. We started fantasizing about our men, our second shifters. Fantasizing about them taking over the kid duties at the end of the day so that we could sit down, lie down or run away, taking care of that second shift. We got giddy with the idea of sleeping at night. If we could hear a child cry and gently tap our Second Shifter and let them know we were up for the first shift and so inevitably it was their turn. Our dreams went on and on as we talked. Sick kids, no prob; discipline issues, not an issue; needing to be in two places at once,too easy when there is a Second Shifter around. So today is Celebrate your Second Shifter Day. Take the time today to give the second shifter in your life an extra squeeze when he takes the kids so you can make dinner. Give him a high five as he crawls out of bed at 3 AM to take on the crying child. Give him a little bit of extra love today on Second Shifter Day!

ReplyDeleteThank you for this. I am so blessed to have a husband that is able and willing to be a second shifter! I'm gone much more than he is, but he rarely complains. I needed this reminder today. You're the best!
ReplyDeleteThere are benefits to being a "second shifter", as you can see above, second shifter's duty is light compared to first's and, as you can also see above, your second shifter has a knack for making his shift seem so exhausting. Although the duty is light, it's obviously much tougher to sleep in a chair with a sleeping kid than tackling the duties of first shift. This a great post babe thanks a zillion.
